A slower, more meaningful way to celebrate at our exclusive-use Devon wedding venue

For many couples planning a wedding, there is a growing desire to make the celebration feel less rushed, more immersive, and far more meaningful than a single day can allow. It is one of the reasons wedding weekends have become increasingly popular – especially for those looking for a luxury wedding venue where family and friends can truly settle in, connect, and enjoy every stage of the occasion together from start to finish.

At The Great Barn Devon, every wedding we host is an exclusively three-day wedding weekend. It is not an add-on or an alternative option – it is simply how we do things, and something we have become exceptionally good at delivering for over 20 years.

As an exclusive-use luxury countryside estate in Devon, the extra time allows couples to experience their wedding in a way that feels calm, spacious and deeply personal.

Friday: Arrive, Settle In, and Make the Venue Your Own

From Friday, the entire venue becomes yours.

Rather than arriving to a short setup window or feeling pressure before the big day, couples have time to arrive slowly, unpack, settle into the cottages, and begin enjoying the peaceful surroundings of our countryside estate.

This extra day often becomes one of the most unexpectedly special parts of the weekend – a chance for rehearsals, relaxed conversations, and those quieter moments before the main celebrations commence. There is time to decorate exactly as you wish, gather your closest people together, and enjoy the feeling of everything coming together naturally and at an enjoyable pace.

Whether you choose to cook for yourselves in our beautiful on-site cottage kitchens or prefer a Friday evening feast prepared and served by our in-house team in the West Barn, the choice is entirely yours.

For many couples, this flexibility is what makes a destination wedding in Devon feel so appealing: freedom, comfort, and the chance to begin the celebration without hurry, in a truly picturesque setting.

Saturday: A Wedding Day That Feels Calm, Not Rushed

More time means more enjoyment, less pressure…

One of the biggest benefits of a wedding weekend is the atmosphere it creates on the wedding day itself.

Because everything is already in place, there is a noticeable sense of calm. Couples wake up already at their venue, surrounded by their closest people, with no travel, no rushing, and no pressure of tight time restrictions. The day can then begin to unfold naturally – from breakfast in the cottages to preparations, the ceremony, drinks in the gardens, dinner, speeches and dancing – all within one exclusive-use setting.

For guests too, the experience feels more immersive and more relaxed, particularly for those travelling to Devon from further afield.

Sunday: The Celebration Continues

No rushing away – enjoy every final moment together.

The celebrations may be over, but the magic does not end there.

One of the most loved parts of a wedding weekend at The Great Barn is that Sunday remains entirely yours too. There is no pressure to leave early or pack up immediately. Instead, couples enjoy a slow morning, often beginning with a lie-in, coffee in the cottages, and brunch either cooked together or prepared by our chefs in the West Barn.

From April to October, many guests make the most of the outdoor pool, while others gather in the gardens for a barbecue, relive stories from the day before, and enjoy a final stretch of quality time together. It allows the wedding to end gently – not abruptly – and gives couples space to properly absorb everything before heading off.
