There’s something about seeing a place through the eyes of the person who knows it best.

In this short film, our owner Emma Birkin shares The Great Barn Devon as it was always intended to be experienced – not just as a wedding venue, but as a place where an entire weekend can unfold at its own pace. From the scale and calm of our aptly named Great Barn itself to the surrounding gardens, accommodation and spaces in between, it’s a glimpse into what makes weddings here feel so very personal and completely unhurried.

What sets The Great Barn apart is the sense of ownership couples feel from the moment they arrive. With exclusive use of the estate, there’s no sharing the space, no clock-watching, and no pressure to rush through moments that deserve time. Instead, couples are free to settle in, welcome their guests and truly make the place their own.

The barn offers a striking yet wonderfully calm backdrop – grand in scale, but warm and inviting. It’s always poised and ready to be transformed with thoughtful details, long tables or rounds, candlelight and flowers that reflect each couple’s story. Step outside and the gardens provide a natural extension of the day, changing gently with the seasons and offering space to wander, gather and pause.

Our luxurious On-site accommodation for up to 30 guests allows celebrations to stretch comfortably across the weekend, while our team of incredibly talented in-house chefs help shape a feasting experience that feels generous, relaxed and deeply memorable.

Deer Leap Flowers is run by sisters Sophie and Cami from their flower farm, quite literally a stone’s throw from @thegreatbarndevon, where they grow beautiful, seasonal flowers and create arrangements full of colour, movement and character.

We just love that our couples can have flowers on their wedding day that were grown only a few fields away, on the very landscape that provides the backdrop to their celebration.

After all the excitement of the wedding day, there’s something so lovely about waking up with nowhere in particular to be. Here at The Great Barn, the estate remains entirely yours for the whole of Sunday, so there’s no need to pack up and say goodbye quite yet.

Take your time over breakfast, whether that’s a leisurely self-catered affair in your cottage kitchen or a delicious brunch prepared by our team of in-house chefs in the West Barn. Or enjoy a ramble up the footpatch through our land and woodland to The Nobody Inn in our neighbouring village of Doddiscombsleigh, for a rather epic Sunday lunch. In the warmer months, there might be a swim in the outdoor pool, a barbecue in the garden or a few more hours spent together, sharing stories from the day before.

And when the time finally comes to leave, you can do so having had the chance to enjoy every last bit of it.

We love that the estate feels both grand and wonderfully intimate; a place with room for everyone to come together, yet plenty of little corners to call your own.

And sometimes, it’s only when you look at it from a different angle that you appreciate quite how much there is here.
