A dusty blue colour palette, summer flowers and simple, considered styling set the scene for Mollie and Jon’s wedding at The Great Barn Devon.
They chose a minimal approach to the décor, with personal details throughout and a layout designed to bring everyone together. From their U-shaped banquet tables to an order of the day displayed on an old painter’s stepladder, the day reflected exactly what they had envisioned.
Tell us a little bit about your wedding day
“We honestly had the best day! Everything was perfect. There wasn’t a single thing that went wrong. The timings were fantastic. The staff were amazing and helped make our day so fluid which allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves. The day was exactly how we envisioned it and it exceeded all expectations. We can’t truly put into words how elated we are/were on the wedding day and the days post wedding in our honeymoon bubble.”
Why did you choose The Great Barn Devon?
“We chose the Great Barn because of the beautiful gardens and surrounding areas. We loved how the Barn made such a grand space so intimate. One big factor for us was that we wanted our guests to be able to mingle and to not become too separated – having the bar next to the main dance floor was a big selling point for us. We loved the fact that our guests could mingle at the bar but still feel present on the dance floor with the music playing.”

Did you have a theme or colour scheme?
“Our theme was very minimal, chic aesthetic and with a dusty blue colour scheme.”
How did you style your wedding day?
“We created a mirror welcome sign with summer flowers around the borders. The order of the day was presented on an old painting stepladder with alarm clocks set at the time for each stage of the wedding. We had dusty blue muslin cloth on the tables with flower vases and candles. The trestle tables were set up in a U-shape to feel like a banquet dining experience which felt very inclusive with our guests.”
Tell us about your wedding outfits
“I wore a Made With Love dress called Grayson that was purchased from Kiva & Zen in Topsham. I had Jimmy Choo diamante heels and Be Mine heels.
The bouquet consisted of summer wild flowers with mixed colours of blue, whites, coral pink, hot pink and oranges. The bouquets were crafted by Olive and Bloom in Cullompton.”
Tell us about your hair and make-up
“My hair was fixed in a sleek low tied knot up do which was done by Cindy Beddard. My makeup was very minimal, natural looking which was done by Liza Hayward.”

What did your guests eat and drink?
“Canapés were chorizo, cheese scones, arancini and bruschetta. Prosecco, Peroni and elderflower bubbly for drinks. Mains were sharing platters of chicken with chicken ballentines, new potatoes and feta salad. Our guests enjoyed iced coffee and cake after the breakfast. The evening food was a selection of pizzas.”
What did you do to entertain your guests?
“We had the garden games provided during canapés. Our guests enjoyed a band called The Cove Club for all the evening music/entertainment.”
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
“How easy our day was thanks to all the staff at the Great Barn. The whole wedding was better than we could ever have imagined. We loved how intimate our wedding was.”
Do you have any words of advice for future couples?
“If you can, try to have a clear vision of how you want your wedding to be, this sets a really good foundation to be able to expand on all your ideas. By providing the Great Barn team a clear vision, they are able to make what you want to happen a lot easier.
It’s great if you can be organised, however don’t sweat the small stuff. People won’t remember what colour the napkins are but will remember how happy you both are and that they are being included in your special day.”
