The Great Barn, Devon - Winter White Weddings in Beautifully Styled 15th Century Great Barn
October 2011. The Great Barn, one of Devon's best kept wedding venue secrets, has launched its first Winter White Wedding Packages for winter 2011/12. Prices start at £4250 for a weekend wedding and mid-week ceremonies start at £850.
The ancient Great Barn, which was restored six years ago by Sir John and Lady Birkin (whose background in television and commercials is put to use from exceptional lighting to stunning styling), has been nicknamed by guests "the thatched cathedral". Seating up to 190 people for the wedding ceremony and feast, the barn's historic origins are offset by state of the art lighting and surround sound, under floor heating, sleek contemporary furniture and place settings.
It is set within the grounds of the Birkin's 15th century family estate where guests can also make use of additional reception rooms, a beautifully decorated cottage which sleeps four, mature walled gardens and a spectacular courtyard. Nearby there are a host of wonderful hotels, self catering properties and Inns, perfect for groups wanting to make the big day last a little longer.
"The Great Barn must be one of the most atmospheric venues for a winter wedding," comments Emma Birkin. "It looked so dramatic during last winter's snow we were inspired to show it off to its best this year. Despite its size, the barn is totally protected against the weather and, even if snows are raging, the interior stays beautifully warm. The rich colours of winter and our candle-lit tables also look spectacular against the backdrop of the vaulted ceiling and muted colours of the barn. Wedding parties don't always associate a barn as a winter reception venue, but there is no doubt our barn is a dream location for a winter bride"

Winter White Wedding – weekend: Costs start at £4250 ex VAT (barn hire only)
Price Includes:
- Exclusive access to the Great Barn Fri-Sun
- Private walled gardens for photographs and reception drinks
- Use of professional catering kitchen
- No corkage
- Access to the "Birkin Brides Bible" – Emma Birkin's personal recommendations on the best wedding suppliers in the SW
- Guidance and advice, by Sir John and Lady Birkin, throughout the planning of your wedding, personal attention throughout the prep day including lighting design and discreet management of your day
- Place settings at an additional £13.20 per head, including high quality cutlery and glass, ice buckets, plain white china and crisp linen, tables (round or trestle), chic white chairs, cake table, knife and cloth, easel for your table plan, stands for your table names or numbers. Staff will lay the tables. No charge for evening guests
White Winter Wedding– mid-week: Costs start at £850 ex VAT (barn hire only)
Price Includes:
- Exclusive access to the Great Barn on Tue or Wed (including 2-6pm on day before wedding) for wedding and drinks reception
- Use of the Barn, private walled gardens for photographs and reception drinks
- Professional catering kitchen from 9am-5pm on the wedding day
- No corkage
- Access to the "Birkin Brides Bible" – Emma Birkin's personal recommendations on the best wedding suppliers in the SW
- Guidance and advice, by Sir John and Lady Birkin, throughout the planning of your wedding, personal attention throughout the prep day including lighting design and discreet management of your day
- For £1.50 per head, the Great Barn will provide glasses, tables and table cloths for a drinks reception
